Mannie Druker - Treasurer (Vancouver)
Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, Mannie and his wife Armelle have lived in Vancouver since 1978.
Mannie has been an active member of the Board of the Hebrew Free Loan Association of Vancouver (“HFLAV”) since 1987. From 1989 to 1994, he served as the Treasurer, and then as President for 10 years from 1994. Including his current position as Immediate Past President, Mannie has now been on the Executive of the HFLAV for the last 25 years.
Mannie has also been a Director of the International Association since 2003. He is currently Treasurer of the board, having previously served as Secretary and Vice-President.
“Vancouver was the first non-US city to join the International Association of Hebrew Free Loans when it was founded in 1980. Today, six Canadian cities are members and the upcoming 33rd Annual Conference is being held in Canada for the 5th time this Fall. I am very proud of Vancouver and Canada’s role in the growth of the IAJFL and look forward to our continuing involvement as the Association continues to grow and strengthen.”
Currently, other members from outside North America include Israel, Melbourne and Panama City and at the “trial” stage Rio de Janeiro, Johannesburg, and Golders Green, London.
“Through my frequent travels, my goal is to get even more international agencies to join the IAJFL. Meeting with enthusiastic ‘free loaners’ at our annual conferences, from so many diverse cities, has been inspiring and finding new ways to continue this ancient tradition is an exciting challenge. Overall, I think this has to be one of the most satisfying Jewish communal activities to be involved with.”
Trained as a Chartered Accountant and after being involved in various businesses, Mannie is now semi-retired and is enjoying hiking and cycling around the world with Armelle. They have two adult children – Remy, who lives in Vancouver and Talia in London, England.
